The pilot slips into his seat
He hears the door shut for the last time
The co-pilot beside him does greet
So shall the war bird go flying
Now the engines are heating
Propellers whipping up gale
The sky beyond is calling
So shall the war bird go flying
Grounded friends are waving
So small when he's so high
The freedom upstairs he's craving
So shall the war bird go flying
With gathering speed he lifts off
Making for the heavens
His being shakes and won't stop
Until the war bird goes flying
He may not make it this time
Same as every other time
Rain falls and the sun shines
Still the war bird goes flying
