Wakeful Dreaming of the Broken-Hearted

Exhaustion overtakes and then leaves me

Sleep unattainable amidst the inundation of

Endless thoughts of traumas and abandoned treasures

Wandering around the dark sphere of my mind’s eye

This wakeful dreaming of the broken-hearted

Drifting through the tumultuous path

Into the past so dangerously crowded

With dashed hopes and failed expectations

Longing for glory and vindication

Amidst a world determined to hold me down

My face rests in my hands as tears fail to come

Too tired to cry. Too discouraged to not to wail

Futures are all but unknown for those

Whose destiny is to be disappointed

No matter what may come, there is no doubt

Satisfaction and contentment will not be among

The surprises yet in store for we who live

In the dark and desperate hours of the night

Hope and solace as far off and impossible

As a sunset greeting a sunrise hello

My head resting upon my pillow, I call out

Weakly and desperate for the night to answer

It leaves me destitute and vulnerable

To the monsters that my own mind

Creates as a self-inflicted torture

Long-since overtaken by exhaustion

Unable to sleep with the inundation of

Endless thoughts of traumas and abandoned treasures

Wandering around the dark sphere of my mind’s eye

This wakeful dreaming of the broken-hearted
