waiting room

I hate waiting rooms

I know that this is not a unique take

Allow me to make it more niche

I hate waiting rooms where I am noticeably the youngest in the room

by decades

Old men sit and listen to the baseball highlights from last week

the woman beside me smiles,

pitifully, I think

She's wearing a mask but so am I

and when Im done with the waiting room

and the examination room

that mask won't be taken off

I'll hide my disappointment and resentment

from you,

for the rest of our lives

The sun will sting once maybe twice

I'll sit in a specialists office annually

It will be a good reminder of how much I hate waiting rooms

I can relate. I got a pacemaker at 49, and the pacemaker nurse would leave me sitting in the waiting room, and never call my name because she thought I was someone’s ride or a patient’s family member. In 2017, they gave me a monitor that downloads the info to my Drs office, so I don’t have to fo in anymore. 😊
