Waiting in a Wavy Line

We’ve all been there

By Gabriel B. ShamesPublished 7 months ago • 1 min read
Feel familiar?

Once again, like so many times in life, I’m standing in line. I haven’t been to an amusement park in a long time… and no matter how trendy and highly recommended I won’t stand around for a pop-up restaurant.

But for the opening day of baseball the business park I work in is giving away free hot dogs or sausages. While supplies last, of course. So… here I am standing in line again.

It’s such a strange feeling, after all this time. I hear the two conversations happening behind me. Something about standing and waiting makes you an even keener listener. Like other people’s lives, for that moment, become my entertainment. I feel like I’m part of the discussion, even though really I have no right hearing it.

I wonder how many times someone has felt that overhearing me. It’s all part of the social cycle, I suppose. We’re all in this boat — or rather this line — together.
