Waiting for Summer’s Freedom

Freedom at Last

The stay-in-place orders announced everywhere

Raised intense fears among the best of us

As we heard the virus spread through the air

And even via my favorite bus

Waiting became a way of life for me

First, I waited for the numbers to fall

So that I could re-open my latchkey

As soon as the virus went AWOL

Then I waited to receive the vaccine

Amidst concerns that it might be unsafe

Glad Dr. Fauci said we all would glean

Comforting results that the shots were safe

After getting my shots in two doses

Summer produced the scent of fresh roses.
