Voice

Writing Prompt: Dictionary definition

A voice is so many different things

It’s the way we laugh, mumble, scream, and whisper

Gossip, joke, shout, sing, and talk

Call, ramble, whine, cheer, and hum

You can voice your opinion

You can raise it, lift it up

But first you must find it

To have your voice heard

Your voice can be raspy, breathy, or grating

Nasily, gravely, deep, or booming

Small, squeaky, shrill, or reassuring

Sultry, measured, calm, or commanding

You can use voice to text, or voice recognition

and leave a voice mail for a friend

You can be a voice actor

and do voice overs with recordings of your sounds

If you are skilled, you can throw your voice

Or maybe you have a lovely singing voice

Or you can give voice to others

Who have lost their voice

You can be the voice of reason,

the voice of the people,

the voice in the wilderness,

or be a dissenting voice

You can have a passive or an active voice

You can speak at the top of your voice

Or in a low voice

Or listen to your inner voice

You better watch that tone of voice with me

And your voice can strain to the point of cracking

But make sure you’re never the one who

Likes the sound of your own voice
