It doesn’t begin in the ears—
it starts in the hollow of the bone,
a dry, granular hum that whispers
you are entirely alone.
Not a roar, but a gray, gritty tide,
scratching the marrow, coat after coat.
A signal broadcast from nowhere,
trapped behind your ribs, stuck in your throat.
It lingers long past its welcome,
stretching each second to thin, brittle thread.
A relentless, high-voltage flicker
turning the wheel inside your head.
The room shrinks down to the frequency.
Your knuckles turn white; your teeth lock tight.
You are leaning so far over the ledge,
frayed like copper wire, ready to fight,
ready to shatter, ready to break—
—click.
The signal cuts out.
A wall of absolute, sudden cold
drops like an iron shade.
The noise vanishes in a split second,
leaving you suspended on the sharp edge
of a quiet you didn't see coming.
