Violet Pearls

She walks with her head high

While her crown touches the sky

Mother tells her dry your eyes

And implies that everything

Will be okay

Her name is Violet like the color

Like the pearls wrapped around her mother’s brown neck

Pearls that never have to be checked

Mother told her the story of the life

She once had full of love and

Laughter hoping that Violet would take

after

Mother what’s that noise outside

Why is their screaming and gun shots

Mother’s stomach tied itself into knots

Don’t worry Violet we are inside

Just hold onto my pearls for good luck

We might be stuck but it will be okay

We have each other

Mother will protect you
