Violet Moonbeams

Falling deep

By Ramie LewisPublished 4 years ago • Updated 4 years ago • 1 min read

Had I been holding my eyes tightly shut

I can't define the rush of adrenaline

it's not fear, it's not exhilaration

I am falling fast in a void, very fast

my chest is heavy

I am holding my breath and can't move

my toes, yes I can wiggle my toes,

I feel, I am aware, I am falling

Fast, and my brain is spinning

Like Dorothy , hallucinations swirling

moments, people of the past,

Floating, spiraling past the past

I command myself to exhale

I consciously task myself to breath

I close my eyes or at least I think I do

no longer supine

I am enervated, feeble

Disorientated, debased from my astral trip

These shoes are not cobblestone friendly

my backdrop is Quadrophenia

soundtrack is YES and Ziggy Stardust

moonbeams filter a violet haze

I sense Voodoo and eyes peeling away my layers

he is there

in a doorway, shadowed and arrogant

as he steps out to interrupt my stride, block my pathway

Cheshire grin,

Chiclet perfect, menacing but so seductive

I turn and run, I run as fast as I can

And I never look back

I command myself to exhale

I remind myself to breathe

I awake

I wiggle my toes and connect

my mind to my body

I command myself to exhale

I remind myself to breathe
