Violent Quiet, In Color

eleven years in loud silence

By Hannah RileyPublished 5 years ago 1 min read
A collage of my poetry

Tucked beneath my mattress lies a spectrum for when there is something inside me

Slick exterior, filled with loud rumors

A place to shed tears of obscurity

Monster steps scraping and drooling

Or a knife that slips or slams

Sleepless effervescent twisting, sending echos into the daylight hours

So much can happen under quilted footsteps on the path to a lucid world

Between sleep and dream, dream and sleep

One night there were parachutes of naive hope

Whipped warbled toppings

Painted feelings stroked outside the lines

And this page turned yellow

When you took another's word

Searching leaves emptiness to find

The thing no one will ever know

Or know I know

Deep down in blue waters, and black eyes

There lives a rage, dressed in sleek red episodes of denial

Reality said she was too much to handle

But that didn’t mean you couldn’t put it all down

Personified figures escaping bodies

Reborn as a hopeful place where quiet grows louder throughout the night

Even though I say all this in black my world is oranger

Orange is a poem

Orange is my light

Orange is my healthy relationship

Orange is my name splashed across the sky

Imagine this in pages

Where a spine contains two walls

Black is my journal and this is eleven years of history

surreal poetry
