VILLA MAGNIAFICO

Relax ‘neath fruit trees in Sicily

Sunwashed villa to call my home

No wish to be in true Italy

Orchards of fruit within to roam

Lovingly tended trees bloom and flower

Lustful ripeness of natures’ bounty

Callused hands tending the bower

Nectar wafts throughout county

A gale force of tireless tenders

Snip, prune and enhance the yields

Anxiously ensuring the best for vendors

Awaiting the finest from our fields

Floating smell of baking apple pie

Contents fresh from the arbor

Stomach rumbles a contented sigh

Soon at the table, our family harbor

First our work must be well and done

Wipe well-earned sweat from tanned face

Move the basket from out the sun

Then to house loving spouse a race

After dinner relax in mottled shade

Swing built for two next to quiet fir

A home lovingly built and made

As a retreat for him and her

HERE IN MY JONBOAT

ROWING ACROSS MY COMPOTE

ON A STREAM IN SICILY

NEARLY ALMOST ITALY

FAR SHORE BARELY IN SIGHT

BUZZING FLIES QUEST AND BITE

A FAN OF PAPER MY ONLY SHIELD

AS TO MARKET WE TAKE THE YIELD
