Victory

On Winning Too Well

By Michelle Liew Tsui-LinPublished 6 months ago • 1 min read

We celebrate Victory Day, the day World War 2 ended.

A victory hard won. More than deserved.

But winning had its ruins too.

***

The coffee--

Untouched.

The mobile screen lights.

Fine cutlery

One. Hard. Bang.

He wants--

Victory. .

***

Loud words.

Then--

Silence.

Their blades--

Cut.

He wins.

But silence swells.

Fills the room.

As he backs--

Away.

***

A dining chair.

Empty.

My heart--

Blank.

No movement

From his room.

The silence--

Rings.

***

The battle--

Won.

The argument--

Finished.

His room-

Vacant

Victory--

Blank

Space

Mirrors of the Mind is a collection of psychological and supernatural short stories that explore the quiet unease beneath ordinary moments. These are not tales of spectacle, but of subtle fracture — where memory distorts, silence speaks, and the self is not always singular. In these stories, what is unseen often carries the greatest weight, and what lingers is not what is shown, but what is felt.
