vermillion

the dichotomy of red

By Raven Rose CobbPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

conflicting connotations

the color red

that drip, drip, drip of blood

or that intimidating color of love

the fires of life and death

a means to salvation or a means to dread

danger at the slightest touch

youth and their affairs of lust

It’s contextual separation

all encompassing, fear and awe

a crimson ferocity, read in pieces

when done no justice, red impedes us

perhaps some misguided depiction of hell

or september picked galas, ripe and red

it’s a polarity most complex, in retrospect

like the passion of love bred from casual sex

the duality of expression

the infinite variations of perception

red rose rubies

given gifts or stolen gems

a never ending war of "good" and "evil"

red

surreal poetry
