Underneath the becoming of my dreams

I see the face of the solemn man in the stars.

I do not remember how I found myself floating in dark, fluorescent ink

Or why I cried when the lady in the lake grabbed my wrists;

Scraped at my neck;

Until I howled that I would drown her too.

Without pressure now, she found herself considering her journey.

As a spirit forgotten; she is crushed by the responsibility she is shackled to.

Interestingly, she also sees the man who will not admit his loneliness.

But she does not reach for his kindness as I did.

She does not find peace in the rippling pearls of the waves

Or the friendly feel of icecaps bringing solitude and a cool seasonal change

She only sees her own fear, bright and glowing through her stringy black hair

And greedy, vengeful fingers.

I touch and hold her chin as she adds her own diamonds to the sea floor;

And dip my head under

So she can steal the gaze of the man who won't look at the consequences

Of the world he thought he knew most of all.
