Values - What do You Hold Dear?

A sonnet

What are the strongest values you uphold?

Where do you place your energy and goals?

That's where you hold your secrets, some untold,

Which shine a light on your true life controls.

*

Perhaps you're wanting great prestige or fame,

And honor is the purpose for your deeds.

You want a legacy built in your name.

Will notoriety fulfill your needs?

*

You could be seeking monetary gains,

And hoping for those big, elusive breaks.

But why go through the effort and the pains?

Is money all the value that life makes?

*

I put it forth that love's a grander plan,

And if you wear your heart for all to see,

Your glory and your wealth in your life span,

Are finding that your days are more carefree.

*

So find some value loving those around,

And your value to others will compound.
