“Not always. Just… sometimes it’s easier to see things when the light is soft.” He nodded like he understood, though she doubted he did. “I’m Caleb,” he said, offering the mug.
“Coffee. With too much sugar.” Rachel hesitated, then took it. “Rachel.” “Nice to meet you, Rachel.” She sipped the coffee. It was terrible. She smiled anyway. “You here for work or escape?” Caleb asked. Rachel gave a short laugh.
“Does it count as escape if you don’t know what you are running from?” “It does,” he said. “Especially then.” They stood in silence, waves lapping at their ankles.
