vacancy

the space you left behind

By Emilie TurnerPublished 8 months ago 1 min read

i thought

we were building

something permanent

...

walls made of mornings

and shared passwords

and the way you said

my name when you

were half asleep

...

we painted futures

in neutral tones

just in case

...

we measured time in

grocery lists

and seasons

and how long it took

for water to boil

...

shit, i left my charger at your place

...

the kitchen still

smells like

coffee

but only mine

...

the fridge hums

like it’s waiting

for instructions

...

i keep finding your hair

in places it shouldn’t be

the drain

my sleeve

the quiet

...

your shoes are gone

but their outlines

remain

like chalk

around a body

...

i keep opening doors

that lead to

less

...

rooms that echo

with versions of us

that never learned

how to leave

...

the house

is standing

...

i am technically

inside it

...

my voice still fits

the space

your voice left behind

...

but nothing

lives here

fact or fictionsad poetry
