Up And At ‘Em
Comfort challenge
The route to success, from what I can glean,
Is having a rock-solid morning routine.
Rise at five – welcome the day with elation!
Then go to your yurt for an hour’s meditation.
A brisk run outdoors, whether sun, wind, or rain
Will balance the hormones and wake up the brain.
Go to the gym; do your reps the correct way
Rotating through back, core and arms, and then leg day.
Hot water with lemon juice cleanses the system
Forget milky coffees – you don’t really miss them.
A smoothie with spinach and lemon verbena
A dash of manuka and add spirulina
And if you’ve particular need of a treat,
A three-egg-white omelette’s indulgent to eat.
So, now that you’ve feasted, the sink should be shined.
Go pick up the place: “tidy house, tidy mind.”
Next: go get the papers to check on your shares,
And get up-to-date with world current affairs.
The next part’s so fun: it’s your skincare regime
You cleanse, tone, and moisturise, add some eye cream
(If you skip the tiniest step on the way
You’ll look like a crone for the rest of the day).
The routine’s almost over; it merely remains
To select a good book to develop your brains.
Not trash, mind you: don’t chose a silly whodunnit
But perhaps a review of the last NATO summit.
This routine, done correctly, will signpost your way
To a healthy, productive, and fulfilling day.
That’s all fine – as it goes. But my blanket’s so cosy
And I went to bed late, so I’m still a bit dozy…
The cat’s on my lap, and it’s warm here in bed…
Perhaps I’ll lie in for the morning, instead.
