A thought.
Ever so fleeting, yet ever so lasting.
It grips onto your brain, latches onto your emotions.
You can't help but grimace.
The memory floods your thinking.
It interrupts your ability to function.
You lie to yourself.
It wasn't that bad you think, but the more you try to delude yourself, the more you remember.
You recall the faces of those around you grimacing, almost in mockery.
Was it mockery?
The distress and embarrassment you felt resurfaces, and you can't help but shiver.
You feel disgust towards your past self.
Why did I do that?
You clench your teeth and groan.
You become uncomfortable at the simple recollection.
You cringe.
You imagine a variety of ways the scenario could have been avoided.
You bathe in the discomfort of asking yourself 'what if'.
You shame yourself for your past actions.
What was I thinking? There were so many people there. They must've thought I was a joke.
And just as quickly as it came, the memory dissolves from your mind and returns to its subconscious library.
You feel yourself returning to the present.
Your consciousness becoming devoid of all negative thoughts, and your body regaining sensation.
What's done is done.
It wasn't such a big deal after all.
You take a long breath of air, and exhale the remaining lingering defeat.
The day carries on as though nothing ever happened.
You forget the memory.
Until next time.
