A Poem

There are some days
when I can’t think of the words to say,
not because they won’t come to me,
or won’t stay—

there are just too many,
all at once.

And you’re not here
for me to tell you,
so I write them down…
or let them get lost forever.

I want to tell you I love you,
tell you I care.

I want to meet up with you somewhere.

I want to vent,
and share secrets,
and see how your day went.

But instead,
I spend my time waiting,
and wishing…
anticipating
any kind of reply.

So many thoughts,
but I have to hold them all in.

If I ever got a chance to tell you,
I wouldn’t know where to begin…

Perhaps I’d start
with my love for you,
grown from a seed
and blossomed into a flower
before my eyes—

a beautiful bouquet
that reminds me of the times
we chatted about the things
we have in common.

But none of that matters
when there is no more chatter.

I feel like I’ve lost you…

the cost
of distance
and circumstance.

Perhaps one day
you’ll message me back.
