Unrecognizable
A Bird who can't fly

A bird does not know itself.
All it knows is that it flies above
To the clouds.
It does not know how many beings crave
To be weightless like it.
.
When they fall, it's by reflex,
To hunt as their instinct tells.
When they jump, there is no fear.
To jump is to live in a fast-paced world.
.
But what about the bird that knows too much?
Stuck on the ground, by its choice.
Trying to understand
why its wings won't spread
as naturally as the bird that does not know.
.
.
What about the bird that connected too much?
Walking alongside tall beings as if it is one,
Trying to observe why instincts won't fear.
Why its talons won't carve
the gravel and fly off like the others.
.
A bird that knows itself
Will pour all its time into picking
apart everything that makes them different.
All the things that keep them from reaching the sky.
Where things went wrong
Why their mind
will stare at their food,
like the worm is a waste of their time.
.
Why eat something meant for those who could fly?
A resource as vital as life,
They'll waste their time, and they starve themselves
wondering if they're worth it to eat life itself.
.
Stare until they lose,
their last natural way to fly.
Til they can't tell what bird they were.
.
.
Or that they were
a bird to begin with.
