Unfinished Soul Business

When connections end but the energy keeps circling back.

By Milan MilicPublished 9 months ago 1 min read

We ended clean on paper,

no dramatic scene,

just a polite “take care”

That didn’t mean anything.

﹁﹂

But my body didn’t get the memo.

I still turn when your name

floats out of someone else’s mouth

like a scent carried on a coat.

﹁﹂

I run into you in the wrong places—

the cereal aisle,

the song that starts at 1:07,

the exact shade of green

on a stranger’s scarf.

﹁﹂

I delete the thread

Then check my archived chats

like I’m looking for a missing receipt

to prove I wasn’t imagining us.

﹁﹂

Some nights I dream

We finish the conversation properly,

You finally saying the sentence

That would make the air behave.

But morning arrives messy,

And your absence is still a room

I keep accidentally walking into.

﹁﹂

Maybe this is what unfinished means—

not love, not loss,

just the energy of almost

circling my life

like a quiet satellite

that refuses to burn out.
