Unfair Advantage

A poem

Psychotherapy on the page or on the stage
Everyone is watching
Observing how you writhe and twist
To the rhythm of the wrong melody
They are the ones who brought this about, their tightly pressed lips
Silent for years on end
Where did true communication go? You longed for a family
And then you reduced everything that mattered
To a purely physical, burdensome toil
Making assumptions about anything has never done anyone any good
They thought I would be a detective of some sort
That I would spend years waiting for even a single positive word
For the support I should have received from my earliest years
Nothing of the sort ever happened, not even after three decades
I had to summon everything I could possibly draw from within myself
While those I considered true friends walked away
So, I began to look for clues in culture
Discovering depths within myself I hadn’t even known existed
I believed it would lead me somewhere, and that is exactly what happened
Followed by many, supported by no one
Here I am, enjoy it while you can still read me here
