Underneath the Crown

Society Challenging Poem

Behind the shades I still feel your shade,

Underneath the Crown lies a mind still plagued,

Behind the gorgeous boots lies the road that I'VE walked,

You know not what that journey did to me, but carry on and gawk,

Under the jewels are fingers that have written,

Attached to hands that tried to help but were bitten,

Underneath the sparkle lies a much darker place,

Underneath the make-up lies an ugly, scarred face,

Your stares are like bullets, your words like knives,

Sometimes I just smile, other times my confidence dies,

But still you'll spit poison because I'm slightly strange,

And I'll spit poison back, but inside I feel pain,

Because underneath the beautiful coat lies a delicate heart,

And underneath that lies a soul torn apart,

Underneath the Crown lies a delicate mind,

Because behind the strange masquerade, just a human, you will find.
