Mental War

At times I am weak

Defeated at most, but not dead

My breath lingers

Delayed, but not absent

Keeping my lungs only partially full

Just enough to breathe life into my battered soul

When the barricade I have constructed fails to keep me safe

And my fellow comrades have abandoned me

Not out of deceit,

But out of fear that they too, shall lose the war I begged of them to fight with me

I do not hold them captive or hostage

For this is my battle,

This is my doom

I allowed them to carry part of my own anguish, that is the betrayal of my aggressor

For I cannot blame them for the mayhem I have fabricated

It was my choice, one that only I was capable of making

Regardless of the pain I knew I would surely come

The downfall of this pride I enveloped is my last attempt to conquer

I have no need for the presumptions of a simpleton

For I am a warrior and a queen

I fight when the people of my kingdom are held at bay

The cage in which they are imprisoned forced to break with such immense power

That a man leading his men to battle with the war cry to stretch over a mile

And the strength of his entire army

Could never come close to the concrete resistance of my will

A will that acts as my shield to the forceful blows I receive

To not only my head that holds my crown but also to the armor that protects my chest

The two having such profound significance

To keep my body enlivened and war-ridden

Against the deceitful ambush directed at my center

My armor, my shield

That no bludgeon could diminish

For it is of the strongest metal

Welded by the most impressive iron-smith

My king has built a barrier of protection around my realm

[He] stands beside me, ready to defend my honor.

Together we are strong

More powerful than all of the gods of this world

Although no deity

Including the one of which his own father is born

Can not compare

To the power that we bestow

In this war that I have sanctioned for far too long

He will bear hindrance at the mere thought of our forces conjoined

The enemy cowers behind the cries of the innocent

Squandering their life

In hopes of taking mine

I will not be foiled

This time I will prevail

For defeat was never an option

Failure would not overcome us.

My king weakens the antagonist

Belittling him into no more than a diminutive prey

Taking his last step of escape into oblivion

Was it not he who called for war?

Did he not expect defeat?

What a pitiful state off poverty his mind must behold

To even assume victory

With the king I call my own, who handcrafted my armor

I am a warrior imploring no surrender

My king, carrying my pride like a coat of arms.

What a foolish thought

This imbecile must have

To believe he could win this battle

Much less the war
