Uncovering Life's Ruse
A Life Lived in Regret
Uncovering Life’s Ruse
It is to this portion of life that I surrender,
When dreams and aspirations no long linger.
With imaginary goals unreachable and waning from sight,
I give way to the realization that it isn’t my plight.
When the signature of life has signed it’s name,
Upon my face and my hands, aging all of me the same.
It’s at that time I’ve come to understand and come to grips,
With the inevitable consequences, no disguise as in a movie clip.
Some submerge themselves into their secret place,
Hiding from friends and family, hands covering their face.
It’s these times of desperation, an awakening of sorts,
The soul’s agony immeasurable like a ship without a port.
There’s no comprehending the years that were lost,
And if possible, they would be purchased back whatever the cost.
Unseen visitors from those missing years,
Speak of things that might have become dear.
So let me cry for what slipped away,
Never to be seen or called back for not even a day.
No matter what might have been and rightfully so,
Are only shadows, vapors, and imaginary illusions here below.
Pressing ever forward into whatever is ahead,
Causes me to regret what was not thought, what was not said.
Would words have made a difference or changed anything,
Or would it only confuse the present to which I now cling.
