Two brothers wait alone in the wood,

One of them sat, while the other one stood.

Both were still, in the dead of night

Both marking time with a feeling of fright.

The brothers, they had a meeting to keep

For Death wanted their souls to reap.

A bargain was made, a soul to give,

Now one will die, and the other will live.

Who Death chooses they do not know,

Time was passing, soft and slow.

Two brothers quietly, going mad

The end of the night they knew would be bad.

Each brother wishing they could live,

Each brother wishing their soul to give.

Both can’t be saved, it can’t be done.

On both accounts, Death has won.

One will be victor, though all of his strife

While his brothers death still haunts his life.

The other will leave, in Deaths cold hands

His soul meeting the agreements demands.

Led astray, in a bargain ill struck,

Fair fortune ran out, as did their luck.

Will Death mark the difference between bad and good?

Thought the two brothers alone in the wood.
