Twisted Thoughts

My thoughts began to twist today,
They would not walk a line,
They curled around each other,
And tangled up with mine.

One memory wore a crooked face,
Another lost its name,
Yesterday went spinning past,
And nothing stayed the same.

Blue thoughts chased the darker ones,
Peach slipped through the grey,
Every colour had a voice,
With something strange to say.

I tried to catch the quiet ones,
And put them back in place,
But every thought I reached for,
Turned and changed its face.

My mind became a roundabout,
That nobody could stop,
One thought climbed upon another,
Then threw me from the top.

I found a little piece of me,
Still hiding in the swirl,
She looked exactly like myself,
But not the same old girl.

She whispered, “Do not straighten me,
I’m better when I bend,
Some thoughts were never meant to know,
Exactly where they end.”

So I let all the madness turn,
And watched it twist around,
Perhaps the strangest parts of me,
Are where my truth is found.

Not everything needs perfect lines,
Or answers neatly tied,
Sometimes all the beauty lives,
Inside the twisted side.

So leave my thoughts to dance tonight,
Let every colour play,
My head may be a bloody mess,
But I like it that way.
