French hens and turtle doves,

swimming swans, laying geese—

Twelve days of invasive birds calling

piping, milking, dancing, leaping,

and drumming,

putting the pear-bottomed

Partridge Family

up a tree

in five golden

rings of fire.

The McKenzie Brothers

said it better.

I’ll drink my beer

in your Christmas tree.
