Turn the Page
When it comes to abuse, too many people want to turn the page.
Through the tears
and sobs, you say:
"Turn the page"
When I see the vicious marks
that devil
draped across your face.
And turn the page I do,
only to condemn you to hell
in your storybook romance.
I could do something
to end this tale,
But I keep reading you,
hoping that you'll
put that book down,
for good.
But your eyes are blackened.
You lips are swollen.
Even as you say
the story will get better.
But I know,
the story will remain the same
until it goes too far.
and this love story
becomes a horror tale.
The writing's there,
for all to see.
The welts, the scars
etched into the skin,
writing an eventual end.
And as I see this happen,
I so want to change this plot.
My fists are clenched,
Waiting to jump in
and force a climax.
Then, you can turn this page
to the end,
put it down
for good.
Throw it away
for good.
And never, ever again,
open a chapter
in this book
and turn the page
to relive this hell
that the devil put you through.
