True Colours

Inside and Out

By James AdlerPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

True Colours

Come out

When you smile

Wear your heart

On your sleave

True Colours

Can be

Seen from high up above

When you trust yourself

Know what you believe

True Colours

Revealed in

How we give to our brothers

But also in how a sister receives

But truly true colours

Are also what's hiding

That which we dont want to be seen

True colours

Behind the vaneer

Of kindness

When our intentions are mean

The truest true colours

Of our inner light

But also the darkness

Of how we deceive

Others

And who are these others

By colours defined

Sepperation of black and white

Sepperated by lines

Where the colour of skin

Can place your life

Behind the line

Can include you or exclude you

Define

What's yours and what's mine

So these true colour

Which we celebrate

May be a pallet of freedom for some

And for others a debate

A playground to explore

Or

A place full of hate

Can i rejoice in the journey

To find my place

When that dream is not open to all

When life's not a party or a ball

For me coloured mates

So now with a smile

And a tear in me eye

I wonder on the future

Of that innocent phrase

True Colours

An how it might change

Hopefully for the better

Or to be better understood

Throughtout the ages

Can true colours be true

When they are only available

For the privilaged few

Stolen by the white man

Inherited by me and you

From those who are truly

Coloured

For those whom embracing

Their true colours

Means being othered

surreal poetry
