True Colors

Empowered by the light in the space within.

“I want to have pride/ like my mother has/ and not like the kind/ in the bible/ that turns you bad” --The Avett Brothers, The Perfect Space

The thing about colors:

one can never really be certain

that we are all looking at the same shade

of green, of red, of blue.

In a world bursting with color,

this, too,

can be a cause for division

if we let it.

But isn’t it more fun

to bask in its beauty

regardless of the color

perceived?

To connect with the sparkling glimmer

of sunshine

that has somehow made its way

to our space inside

through such a beauteous display?

To rejoice in the light

of our ability to light up from within

and to trust and know

that this capacity

is openly available to all who

would sample such delectable

delights?

Isn’t such a glisten

worthy of our smiles,

our hugs, our joy?

Hands thrown to the sky?

Perhaps, this is too simple,

too wholesome, too sincere.

But, in a world ravaged

by the dispute over the diverse colors

and fragrances of culture,

I’d like to believe in

and be a part of those

who bring it into

the homes of their hearts

and let it shine.
