Three-legged dog

        Adopted as conversation starter

And a chance for the owner

To touch their heart

And wax on about 

How it broke 

When they first saw him

And they just had to have him

And yes

        It's a struggle

But oh so rewarding

        Droning on and on 

While the listener

        makes infantile whines

        of well practiced empathy 

        to prove they are just as good a person
