Trick-or-Treating No More
An ode to trick-or-treating.
This poem was inspired by the now-outdated tradition of trick-or-treating.
Thanks for the continued challenges, Mike!
Please enjoy!

Whenever I look around, I yearn for the days of old.
Homemade costumes, swinging plastic pumpkin pails, and braving the cold.
Flashlights in one hand, our mom's in the other.
The air was saturated with an eerie energy,
Making us mischievously scare one another.
Oh, I miss the fun of trick-or-treating...

Crunchy leaves smushed by our tiny feet,
Wearing a gleeful smile for all that we meet.
Chanting at their doorstep, "Trick-or-treat!"
After retrieving our sweet treasure,
When we got home, our mom would carefully measure,
How much and what was safe to eat.

It seems the tradition has faded away.
Now trunk-or-treats, businesses, and churches are where kids play.
Store-bought outfits with an outrageous price tag,
And tired parents buying a bulk candy bag.
Rather than the 'dangerous' act.
Old fashioned trick-or-treating was better, and that's a fact!
