Toss a Pebble to the Sea
Toss a pebble to the sea,
Where does it land?
It’s a puzzle to me.
Does the tide drag it out,
To the deepest depths?
Or does it stay,
Where it lands as it sinks,
Down and down.
Toss a pebble out,
Toss it into the sea,
And make a wish,
As it leaves your hand.
And if the wish comes true,
Thank the universe,
For making the ocean,
So grand.
I made a wish,
As I threw my pebble deep into the sea,
I dreamt that the perfect love,
Would come to me.
And there that night,
He knocked on my door,
He was selling something,
And I wanted to see more.
So I invited him in,
And we chatted with a brew,
By the end of the night he said,
I fancy a proper drink, don’t you?
So we left all his wares,
All over the floor,
And left smiling happily,
Out of the door.
For alas he wasn’t,
The one for me,
So I tossed another pebble,
That landed deep in the sea.
