Top five best Gothic moments in media (my own best moments)

In poetic verse

5. Beetlejuice; Lydia

A dark veil, a black

Dream, I see Lydia dancing above the air with ghosts;

Singular bodied and serene.

————

4. Sadie; Steven Universe

Sadie; you

Are the living/dead

Dreaming of living for yourself

Instead you are drained by The Working Dead

Eating brains.

——————-

3. May; May

May—you try not to hide, you

Show yourself to all,

But the glass is cracked just as your reflection;

And your love was too much; it was your downfall.

——————

2. Queen Akasha; The Queen of the Damned

Queen of the shadows and

Darkness,

She resides in the moonlight chiefly to read your eyes (your very soul)

Lurking in underground clubs to find her perfect Other,

She finds herself in the throes of agony—

Destroying all to create

That perfect Gothic romance

Her dead heart still shudders

And dreams of.

—————————

1. Penguin; Batman Returns

Existing underneath a dark city,

He dreamt of living in a new, dingy world

Where he could find out who he was(destiny)

But found out instead who he was always going to be.

He trickled down his pain, like a sieve

it leapt up—smashed his hubris

Like a cat’s paw to a ball of string,

He lived in a fabulous world of penguin covered black and white madness—-

Something even a large top hat couldn’t bring:

A loving family, a reassuring face,

Only swirling insanity

And a penguin’s last embrace.

And here is a bonus poem!

—————-

Coraline; The Acrobats and The Garden

Moving is such a drag,

She wanders, constantly, looking for a new story

Wherein she finds magic and adventure;

She sees reflections of her old life,

An incredible acrobatic show embedded with

Poetic mystery—-

And a luminous garden:

Yet she finds through the shadows and

The dreamy wonders——

Were a bit confused

And fractured

And as she looked at her own reflection,

Coraline knew everything she ever needed

Was always inside herself

And in a pair of interesting yellow gloves her real mother gifted her.
