Today’s A New Day

I’ve woken up smiling

The sun is shining brightly

The birds are singing loudly,

It’s the dawn of a new day

My cats are purring proudly.

***

I’ve a busy day today

But I’ve awoken smiling,

Spreadsheets are my future

A full day of reconciling.

***

My heart is feeling full

My dreams playing out,

If you need me all

Just give me a shout.

***

I’ll have company soon

As I work at home today,

My oldest son joins me

But it’s all work no play.

***

A busy ten odd hours

Of numbers on a screen,

My mind wandering

I’ll need my caffeine.

***

Hump day is now over

I’m on the downhill slide,

The weekend relaxing

The music amplified.

***

Three days of freedom

Then back to the grind,

Wash, rinse and repeat

For the rest of a lifetime.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
