A list
The privilege I hold of forgetting about inhumanity for a few hours.
The ability to question established modus operandi.
The steaminess of my bathing water.
The turbulence of a few heartbeats.
The unfolding of gaping doors.
The blooming of my backbone.
The late goodbyes that caress the dimple of my cheeks.
The traces left by the humans who recently shared my path.
The beings who have journeyed through my peaks, stumbles and falls.
The barely audible humming of the dishwasher.
All of who I am right now,
and who I will be as the world continues to turn.
And you, what are you grateful for today?

The Singer So Shy
She stood near the cold fireplace, watching the second-hand tick down to the hour. In another minute, the clock's bird would emerge and warble the hour. She reached up and touched the clock, tracing the gentle slope of the farmhouse roof, then trailing down the lilac strewn side, to the white fence framed dooryard. She wished she was there, where the air would smell of lilacs rather than smoke.
