To See With Another’s Eyes

If we could see the world through another’s eyes

Perhaps we would no longer wonder why

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

Perhaps then we’d approach life bolder

…..

If we could listen through another’s ears

Perhaps we’d no longer hear falling tears

Instead we’d hear music, laughter, and song

To which we all could smile and sing along

…..

If we could touch with another’s fingers

Perhaps we’d feel the fading warmth as it lingers

Feel a wondrous presence in the very air we breathe

Then with regret we’d no longer seethe

…..

If we could but scent with another’s nose

Perhaps we’d stop to smell the fragrant blooming rose

Our path through life would slow as we ponder

What makes us yearn to cross that hill over yonder

…..

If we could taste with another’s tongue

We’d sample the confection that once kept us young

The sweet taste of compassion and caring for others

Perhaps we’d learn we all are truly brothers

…..

If we could walk with another’s feet

Perhaps we’d march to a different beat

Learn to run, leap, gambole, and dance

Then on a new trail we could take a chance

We all need to try to…

See what another sees

Listen to what another hears

Scent what another scents

Taste what another tastes

Feel what another feels

Walk in another’s shoes

…..

Then we could stop tasting ashes of defeat

Stop seeing bodies drop in a blasted out street

Stop hearing the whistle as the bombs drop

No longer scent the decay of hatred’s crop

And instead reach out our hands

And feel love for our fellow man

As we walk a new and better path
