My brother resides down in a pit.
A decade of friendship we shared and I miss him so.
He refuses to dig his way out.
His soul rots, never again to grace my home.
I tried to help.
I really did what I could.
Back when I worried about him.
When I wanted him to get better.
Now I am here.
Robbed of his bright smile.
His weird attitude that made the world a bit warmer.
Showing up in the middle of the night needing a hand.
That struggle two men share when they are young.
He is gone now.
In that pit.
He no longer wants to get better.
I can no longer help him.
There is still a light on for you.
A shovel in the shed.
