To J.K. Rowling,

I admired you,

I adored you,

From childhood

I aspired

To be you.

Now?

I couldn’t be madder

With you,

I couldn’t be sadder

At what you

Have become—

Or what you have been

All along.

Go ahead and laugh

From upon your golden throne

Where the pain of your words

Can’t reach you,

Where the trouble you cause

Can’t touch you.

I’ll just walk away

As your empire burns

And you play your fiddle,

Not a care in the world—

Someday the trail will blaze

Its way to your front door

And melt everything that’s gold.

My tears shed

For the promise

Your empire once held—

That is all,

And nothing more.

Bitterly Yours,

A Former Fan
