Poem

By Oleksandra HulovataPublished 2 years ago • 1 min read

When you watch your family build the castle

you put your soul into every block

you leave your hairs and nails all over the floor

you protect the windows with bars and falls

they suddenly start ruining the ceilings

ruining the blocks

ruining the veils

ruining themselves

my mum puts all the irons on her shoulders

my dad rips off the floors and covers himself with them

my sister slams every single door with her protest

I try to capture a beam of light

from the windows, I’ve been falling from

all

this

time

I go to my tiny caves

but they’re already inhabited by demons

I can’t find peace with these demons

I try to talk to them

but they know me even better than I know

myself

then

I try to protect myself by screaming

by crashing everything with my yell

so high and desperate

that the house is set on fire

and I see my sister looking the way

like I’ve taken the best of her life

and I see my father burning under the floors in blankets

and I see my mum’s hands going red because of hot iron

I just can’t stop screaming

I feel like this scream is the only thing

that is alive in me

all the other threads are dead

and I now stand in the field alone

and the winds are blowing my clothes off

and this nudeness makes me feel like I am the earth

like I need water and rivers

and I feel I'm becoming whole

my hairs have returned with birds’ flight

my nails have returned with flowers

my falls have become new angels

and now they are holding me so tight

I can’t breathe with anger anymore

and their gold fills my eyes

and I can see nothing but beauty

and the sun is so bright again

and its beams are in my soul

and the angles return to their place

leaving a new angel on Earth
