'Tis the Rain

Encroaching Gloom

By Cindy CalderPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

‘Tis only the drum of the rain that beats

Upon the panes of the window in yonder room

As the heat of summer presses on and meets

The stillness of the ever encroaching gloom.

My heart doth cry in silence for thee

To return to both my sight and bed

So that you might always with me be

Until my heart no longer fills with dread.

I miss thee as I miss the sun and light of day

Will thou not return so that joy will be mine?

I cannot do this thing alone and cannot stay

Without thee beside me in each moment of time.

With haste, return to me, my heart doth cry

Or take me with you, for without you I shall die.
