tiny invitations to come home

sometimes it’s hard to stay ~sane~ when you have a mind that just wants to dive down every rabbit hole it finds. it’s like walking a dog that tries to eat everything it sees and the whole time you’re trying to gently keep it walking straight in the middle of the path without yanking it too hard and hurting its neck. but your mind can be a little trickier. sometimes it tries to go down 7 different rabbit holes at once and you don’t know in which direction you need to pull and all of a sudden you’re lost. and you think you’re alone, but the whole time the world has been sending you tiny invitations to come home.

a witnessed hug,

a leaf falling from a tree,

the six words you overhear in a passing conversation that perfectly respond to exactly what you were just thinking about.

the way the sunlight shines through the window and casts shadows against the light that for some reason touches something deep inside your soul.

the tiny ripples in a pond as a water bug glides across the water that flow out into infinity as they seduce you to look closer, mesmerizing you with their subtlety and perfection.

“look,” they say. “do you remember?”

a smile.

a smile that dissolves every thought in your mind into nothing because seeing home in the other person’s eyes is the most relieving feeling in the world.

seeing home – a familiarity that transcends this lifetime – that cracks your heart wide open so this brilliant light seeps through, radiates throughout your entire body and then shines back out through your eyes. and you realize that what you’re seeing in the other person’s eyes is both yourself and the unfathomable beauty of the entire universe at the same time and that there’s no separation between the two.

you remember something so deeply and so clearly, as if your cosmic glasses with fingerprints and years of accumulated dust and dirt have finally been wiped clean.

you remember something.

There’s a space inside your heart

that can only be touched by the most magical of moments.

sacred moments.

the ones that block out all the noise and bring you into this bubble of stillness where time slows down. where you become so immersed in the now that you forget to be aware of yourself – you forget that you’re a human incarnated on earth.

because all you remember is home – connection, love, unity – you remember the place we came from

where oneness was all we knew.

you remember.

that oneness is all there is.

and you feel enveloped in the loving embrace of something divine.

it feels warm and pink and bright.

and in that moment you realize

she never stopped hugging you.

in that moment you realize

it is only an illusion

that you can ever

not be home.
