Time Tamer

The hubris of trying to capture a universal force

Mercury in glass contracts or expands

Measuring thermal heat of sun on land

Should thermometer break, sun continues to shine

Despite our efforts, same it is with clocks and time

Humanity seeks to conquer universal constants

Striving to quantify and control with human conscience

Time flows onward whether we will it or no

Forward unknowing of human efforts to tame it so

Digital numbers count and measure as they should

Quantifying hands affixed to a face, plastic or wood

Increment by increment measured tick by tock

Might’st as well try fell a mountain with poorly darned sock

None of humanity’s efforts effect the vagaries of Time

Time acknowledges not a force simple as this hubris of mine

Not knowing, less caring, our efforts to box it in

Time cares less than nothing – human measures, human sin

Eternity, once begun, marches to it’s own beat

Regardless of tick of clock or any technological feat

Time shall continue unabated eternal

After all our clockworks are crumbled infernal

By the way, anybody know what time it is? My watch stopped …
