Maple the cat - The inspiration for Tilly

Tilly the cat woke with the sun

The morning is here, it is time for some fun

She could not decide there was so much to do

She was going to have fun, at least that much she knew

Tilly got up, she stretched and yawned very wide

She blinked the sleep from her big yellow eyes

Now she must eat before she can play

So out of the room she made her kitten way

Her tummy was hungry, it wanted some food

Luckily for it she was in an eating mood

She rounded the corner and went down the stairs

When she tripped and flew far up in the air

Then with a cry and a furious crash

Tilly came tumbling down – bang, boom, and smash

She picked herself up and looked wildly around

No other cats and no other sounds

Tilly thought of her food and made a mad dash

But she could not stop she was going too fast

She slipped and she slid, a wild cat dance

Intending to stop but instead she just pranced

After she finished eating, Tilly wanted to go play

But she was quite tired, so she stopped on the way

She was sleeping on a shelf when she stretched her paws out wide

And that was when poor Tilly slowly began to slide

Now very awake, Tilly headed outside

She chased all the bugs when they all tried to hide

She was chasing a bee when she jumped in the air

And when she came down, she got a big scare

Tilly landed in the pond with a splash and a spray

Oh, this poor clumsy kitten was very dismayed

When from behind a voice croaked with glee

“Well, this is something I thought I would never see”

He hopped and flipped and then he landed with a bow

“Would you like to learn?” He asked, “well let me show you how”

“For when I get done with you, you will be as graceful as myself”

“You will jump, dance, and celebrate and never fall from a shelf”

Then the frog bowed again and taught Tilly everything he knew

And when the day was finally done, she felt downright cool

She thanked the frog very much before she said goodbye

Confident and graceful now Tilly went inside

And in the morning when Tilly woke from sleep

She was just so excited that she started with a leap

And when she got to the stairs she jumped and flipped for fun

Because for this graceful kitten, the dance has just begun
