Thunderclaps Do Entertain

A Villanelle

I love the sound of rain.

I watch the dark clouds over my lake.

Thunderclaps do entertain.

-

My cat helps me feel sane;

He nestles in my lap when the wind chimes shake.

I love the sound of rain.

-

Together, we watch the sky complain.

I wonder: Can the sky ache?

Thunderclaps do entertain.

-

My heart rate lowers as I study the misty terrain.

My cat watches the shutters quake.

I love the sound of rain.

-

Gray skies, in all their power and majesty, have free rein,

And the strong wind lets my soul know it's wide awake.

Thunderclaps do entertain.

-

Rain is the sky's champagne;

Lightning is an ancient snake.

I love the sound of rain.

Thunderclaps do entertain.
