Gloomy days filled with grey skies

Turn into nights too cold for even the stars above,

The light they once offered

Now dead like the landscape they look down upon.

*

Time ticks away in the silence of these cold winter nights

A promise of better days over the horizon,

But the horizon is too hard to see,

The world is dark and desolate.

*

Eventually,

Darkness fades to light,

The world is born a new,

Black and navy shifting to the vibrant yellows, pinks, and oranges of the rising sun.

*

The silence shifts and fades away,

Replaced by the melody of songbirds,

Their songs play on repeat in the crisp morning air.

*

A ballad of spring,

A promise of warmer days

And more peaceful

Nights.
