Keeping it surreal

This year, I’m mixing up

the holidays, like you

messed up my head. I’m

giving thanks on Halloween,

bringing chocolate hearts

to Thanksgiving dinner.

I’ll declare my independence

on Christmas Day,

scare you to death on New Year’s

Eve, deck the halls

on the Fourth of July,

lavish my loved ones

with gifts on Groundhog Day,

and make you see

your shadow

on Valentine's Day.

Intrusive rhyme bothers me, except as a weapon.

Intertextuality is my passion.

Formalist/ New Critical are my guiding theories.

My words are mine, not a robot’s.
