This Shade?

Of what is my brown made?

By Adena MyersPublished 5 years ago Updated 5 years ago 1 min read

This shade?

My brown?

a Mulberry-sparkle,

Astrodome bodysuit.

Landscapes Rippling green, islands of lives,

past remembering. Off white Sun linen - soft to be

worn in. Shave the mauve off the mouth I dream

in kissing him.

2 wheel, Yellow seat, unicorn fur streamers rustle in peddle

made breeze. Jasmine dreams tri-purple hue with gold trimmings

Velveteen eyes and beige Mitsubishi, tired leather, under

sand-papered hands.

Powdered-baby blue lace around the hallway mirror

Silver Venus slice giveaway to familiar

1994 Revlon Red. Then a periwinkle

suit in which mother discovers Gin.

What makes me is exactly what does and

does not make you. Individual overlapping

rainbows. Pillars of color in and on each other.

Experiences in cans sealed and shaken

the sleeked in hues layered to make this exact pigmentation.

The shade of Golden hour light spilling across healed battlefields

skeletons this life. Blood of blue hour whispers to walls. And my spirit,

putrid new leaf green.

The brown cursed for being so monochrome across my plane

The brown begged to make way to porcelain, cream, or peach stayed

Brown, she varies like

Earth

you can’t know brown until you know her.

I couldn’t love me

Until I met her.
